About KMOP

KMOP is among the oldest Greek civil society organizations, founded in 1977, with 40 years of accumulated experience in supporting disadvantaged groups of various backgrounds.

KMOP believes that a prerequisite for building a better world is addressing the underlying causes of vulnerability by building resilience of individuals and communities to anticipate, resist and recover from the risks that shifting societal, technological and environmental developments create.

Our work involves the public and private sectors, but also the civil society, aiming to promote social innovation and design comprehensive solutions accordingly, for the benefit of various vulnerable groups. Even though different communities have different types of challenges, our belief and mentality is to facilitate the transfer of know-how and expertise from one environment to the other, following always a tailor-made approach and customize good practices to different needs and contexts.

KMOP has been working in many countries outside Greece, including also Macedonia, with a presence in the country since 2015. KMOP’s activities in the country started from setting up a project office and have escalated and evolved to a local branch, which has been registered as a local NGO and works autonomously, with the mandate of capitalizing on KMOP’s background and track record for the benefit of the vulnerable groups of the country.

So far we have supported marginalized populations in the country, trying to facilitate their entrance to the labour market and promoting thus their social inclusion by utilizing social mentoring. This has been proven as a successful effort, as many disadvantaged beneficiaries were linked with the private sector, while some of them had also the opportunity for some internships in local private companies.

At the same time, we are also working in trying to prevent Roma children from dropping out of the formal education system of the country, something which would maximise their chances of being included into their local communities. For doing so, we are trying to mobilise and develop the local CSOs active in supporting Roma populations by introducing a sub-granting mechanism, which will motivate them into taking action in this field and develop further their activities.

Our goal is to try to be actively engaged in the social welfare system of Macedonia as much as possible and contribute to the relief of various vulnerable groups by trying to design innovative and effective solutions to some of the problems that the country currently faces, making local communities more resilient towards those in need of support.
